Power Washing Information and Tips
Buffalo Pressure Clean provides superior power washing services but we realize many people aren’t exactly familiar with what pressure washing entails so we’ve compiled the following information to help you better understand it and determine if it’s right for your needs.
Myth - High Pressure Washing Means A Cleaner Result Many people consider high pressure washing to be a means for eliminating the surface dirt and that using a higher PSI will actually increase the cleaning ability of the pressure washer. Or, a person might use a power washer to clean a surface and if they find it isn’t working like they want, they get closer to the surface or use a certain tip on the end in hopes of it cleaning better. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. If you don’t research high pressure cleaning before attempting to do it on your own, you’ll likely end up with damage; either to the surface or to yourself. Certain surfaces should never be cleaned with high pressure including painted wood siding. The pressure can actually remove or chip the paint. In addition, using high pressure can sometimes cause an uneven ‘striping’ appearance where some areas look cleaner than others. We see this a lot with untrained people using high pressure washing to clean a surface. Hazards of High Pressure Cleaning Trying to clean with high pressure as an amateur user is definitely a safety hazard. High pressure systems are often harder to control and if you were to be on a ladder, using a high pressure washer, you risk falling or hurting yourself. Sometimes High Pressure Isn’t Enough While it may sound good in theory, high pressure cleaning isn’t always the most reliable or effective method for cleaning surfaces. Certain stains and even mold won’t move a hint with high pressure and instead could easily be removed by simply using a cloth or brush. Unfortunately, nobody has the desire to go around their property and clean it by hand with a brush or cloth. High pressure washing should be used to clean hard surfaces, like concrete or brick, but it still needs to be done by a professional, like our Buffalo power washing company, or you risk damaging the surface; even with brick and concrete. Correct Washing Detergents Make a Difference When it comes to pressure washing, the kind of detergent makes a significant difference on the results. Homes can develop rust, mold, mildew, and other buildup on the exterior over time. As a professional power washing service provider, Buffalo Pressure Clean knows which detergents are effective and safe for the many surfaces of WNY homes. The soap will sit on the home’s surface long enough to loosen the mold and dirt and any other debris that won’t easily come off with water. Then the home is cleaned with a pressure washer and the debris is completely washed off. DIY vs. Professional Assistance While smaller homes could definitely be washed by someone that has experience using a pressure washer, if you don’t have the right detergents or the know-how, you won’t get the results you want. Larger homes will require the help of a professional pressure cleaning company due to the higher, harder-to-reach siding.
